Gasoline Tanker Fire
On August 30, 2006 at 0532hours, Engine 42 was dispatched to a
vehicle fire on HWY 27 East. Upon arrival they found
a tanker truck carrying 9200 gallons of gasoline fully
involved. E-42 established command and had Lincolnton FD
and Alexis VFD dispatched for mutual aid. E-200 from
Alexis protected
the exposures on the west side of the accident. The
tanker knocked down several power poles, knocking out
power to a thousand homes and businesses. One school was
affected and had to cancel
classes for the day. The heat from the tanker melted
phone, cable and fiber optic lines that were about 70’
away. The driver was found out of the
vehicle and transported to a local hospital. Fire
crews worked for 8 hours before being
released by Boger City command. Other agencies involved
were North 321 VFD, Pumpkin Center VFD, Duke Power, NCDOT, Lincoln County Emergency Management, Lincoln County
EMS, NC Highway Patrol and Hepaco environmental clean
up company.
