Gasoline Tanker Fire
On August 30, 2006 at 0532hours,  Engine 42 was dispatched to a vehicle fire on HWY 27 East. Upon arrival they found a tanker truck carrying 9200 gallons of gasoline fully involved. E-42 established command and had Lincolnton FD and Alexis VFD dispatched for mutual aid. E-200 from Alexis protected the exposures on the west side of the accident. The tanker knocked down several power poles, knocking out power to a thousand homes and businesses. One school was affected and had to cancel classes for the day. The heat from the tanker melted phone, cable and fiber optic lines that were about 70’ away. The driver was found out of the vehicle and transported to a local hospital. Fire crews worked for 8 hours before being released by Boger City command. Other agencies involved were North 321 VFD, Pumpkin Center VFD, Duke Power, NCDOT, Lincoln County Emergency Management, Lincoln County EMS, NC Highway Patrol and Hepaco environmental clean up company.
