50th Anniversary Celebration
On Sunday, Sept. 28th the Boger City Fire Dept. held
its 50th Anniversary at the station. Members from
the community, firefighters from the entire county,
families of firefighters, and many others came to
celebrate the occasion. There were old pictures from
the past, a slide show, a smokehouse for the kids,
refreshments, and lots of fellowship. The guest
speaker was Dave Murphy (Fire Safety Engineering
Technology professor from UNC Charlotte) who spoke
how far the fire service has come and how valuable
volunteers are to the community. Chief Hill
recognized the original founders of the Fire Dept.
including Hub Finger who was the only original
founder in attendance. Hub received a standing
ovation from the crowd. Chief Hill also recognized
his father and still active member Clyde Hill for 50
years of service with a white leather helmet with a
fire engine on the shield. The Board of Directors
would like to give thanks to all the current
firefighters as well as past firefighters for
professional and outstanding service to the
community for 50 years.
